GOOD PITCH2 For-Good Films - Applications Open
21 January 2014 at 10:32 am

Filmmakers are invited to apply for GOOD PITCH2 AUSTRALIA - an international forum for social impact documentaries, to be held for the first time in Sydney on October 8, 2014.

GOOD PITCH2 brings together documentary filmmakers with foundations, Not for Profits, campaigners, philanthropists, policy-makers, brands, educators, broadcasters and media to forge alliances around ground-breaking films that are good for society.

The Executive Director of GOOD PITCH2 AUSTRALIA Malinda Wink says the project connects the world's best social impact films with new allies and partners.

“GOOD PITCH2 AUSTRALIA is calling out for outstanding documentaries that can be used as a powerful medium at the heart of local, national and international campaigns with the purpose of making a sustainable difference,” she said.

Seven feature-length documentary projects will be chosen to present at the Sydney Opera House on October 8, 2014.

GOOD PITCH2 is looking for:

• Outstanding films that tackle a significant social issue or have something important to show about the world;

• Films of any style - personal, observational, essays, presenter-?led, verite?;

• Films across a range of genres (eg. social justice and human rights, environmental, arts and history);

• Films at any stage from early production to completion and even early festival circuit; although rough cut stage is ideal;

• Films of 60+ minutes in length.

“Projects are distinguished by their commitment to building a community engagement and outreach strategy,” Wink said.

“Once the final seven projects are determined, the GOOD PITCH2 AUSTRALIA team will work intensively with the selected filmmakers to further develop the funding and impact strategy for each project and filmmakers will attend development, pitching and campaign workshops with local and international partners.

“Filmmakers will need to submit a trailer or key sequence from their film plus a 2-?minute video telling the GOOD PITCH2 AUSTRALIA team why they want to make their film and what they want it to achieve.”

Applications are now open and will close on 10 April, 2014. The application guidelines are at: www.goodpitch2australia.com.au.

GOOD PITCH is a partnership between BRITDOC and Sundance Documentary Film Program, and has been gaining momentum since the first international event in 2009.

The rights to host the satellite event GOOD PITCH2 AUSTRALIA have been secured locally by Shark Island Institute and the Documentary Australia Foundation.

GOOD PITCH2 AUSTRALIA is supported by leading philanthropic bodies – Philanthropy Australia and Pro Bono Australia – who are the Community Partners for the initiative.

Shark Island Institute is a Not for Profit organisation and division of Shark Island Productions – an award winning independent documentary production company based in Sydney, Australia.

Shark Island Institute is also the founder of the Documentary Australia Foundation, a Not for Profit documentary hub, established to encourage philanthropic funding and Not for Profit collaborations around social impact documentary filmmaking.
