The Andrews government announces first phase funding to tackle family violence.

Thirteen separate research projects to collect up-to-date data to tackle family violence in Victoria have received first phase funding as part of the Victorian government’s Family Violence Research Program 2021-2024.

The grants are part of a $2.5 million package supporting research that forms part of the overarching Family Violence Research Agenda 2021-24.

Research will include supporting recovery from violence for children and young people, addressing challenges to accessing family violence support for First Nations peoples and strategies for engaging perpetrators and people who use violence.

Four projects will be led by sector organisations and nine by universities with peak bodies for the sector also involved in more than half the projects.

Victorian Minister for Prevention of Family Violence Ros Spence said a robust evidence base helps to build better solutions to prevent and respond to family violence.

“These projects will make a valuable contribution and will address evidence gaps in prevention, early intervention and responses to family violence and sexual assault,” she said.

“Working alongside universities and industry, this research will help build upon our nation leading reform to prevent family violence.”

Victoria has invested $3.7 billion into family violence prevention since the Royal Commission into Family Violence.
