Community groups to be showcased on Melbourne’s iconic trams

These “wrapped” trams will operate on the network for about four months in 2022

Yarra Trams is giving six community organisations the opportunity to share their messaging on the world’s largest tram network and promote the good work they do.

The Yarra Trams Community Partnerships Program (YTCPP) – which has been running since 2018 – provides organisations with free advertising via a wrapped tram.

A panel of business, government, and community leaders selected the YTCPP’s community partners, which support the 2022 program’s theme of “Building a Resilient and Sustainable Melbourne”.

The community partners are: Ability Works Australia, Bush Heritage Australia, Enable Australia, Fitted for Work, Good Cycles, and YMCA ReBuild.

YMCA ReBuild’s wrapped tram will enter the network first in late December, with the other trams to follow and operate for around four months next year.

Victorian Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll said the program offered valuable exposure for organisations doing important work in the community.

“Our public transport network reaches thousands of people every day and we are proud to continue partnering with local organisations to promote the efforts of the community to improve sustainability and help disadvantaged people find meaningful employment,” Carroll said.

Yarra Trams’ CEO Julien Dehornoy said helping select the successful organisations was “one of the most rewarding and difficult parts” of his job.

“Melbourne is blessed to have so many incredible social enterprises and not for profits that work hard every day to improve the lives of Victorians,” Dehornoy said.

“Selecting just six organisations to partner with every year is incredibly difficult, but I’m delighted with this year’s participants and I’m looking forward to seeing these six organisation’s trams out on the network in 2022.”
