Platform Offers Matched Funding

While peer-to-peer event fundraising is not new, an Australian company says its new platform offers an extra dimension – matched fundraising from caring corporates.

The platform via newly established GiveMatcher allows individuals and teams participating in general fundraising or charity events and personal events to raise matched funds from corporates registered and willing to give.

“Our platform makes peer-to-peer fundraising for charity much easier as the message to peers is most compelling: donations to this fundraiser are tax deductible (for DGR-endorsed charities), and matched by caring companies, so that the recipient charities receive up to four times the real cost to donors,” CEO Franck Demoiseau said.

“More funds are raised for recipient charities because of the match, and because companies bring new donors making their constituents aware they are matching donations to this charity fundraiser and kindly inviting them to donate and be matched by them.

“By making peer-to-peer fundraising easier, we are encouraging more people to raise funds for their favourite charity including people who might otherwise find it difficult to ask their friends and their family for donations.

“We charge no sign-up or annual fees.

“It might be best to understand our functionality by using an example.  Let’s say multiple teams from a major bank take part in the walk-a-thon and do peer-to-peer fundraising for various charities.  This is so far standard functionality that other systems provide.  What Givematcher allows, in a world first, is for the company, in this example the bank to match online, all the donations to their staff's fundraisers (from friends, family, colleagues, etc).”

Demoiseau said companies receive benefits by helping them connect with their staff, build team spirit, encourage playful rivalry, and showcase their social responsibility, which drives staff engagement and retention, and helps attract talent

“Having companies matching donations to their fundraiser means the message to their peers is easy and very compelling: donations to this fundraiser are tax deductible (for DGR-endorsed charities), and matched by companies, so that the recipient charity receives up to 3-4 times the real cost to donors,” he said.

“Their fundraiser raises more funds for recipient charities because donations are matched because companies then have the choice of making their constituents aware that they are matching donations to this charity fundraiser and kindly invite them to donate and be matched by them.”
