International Day of People with Disability Event Registrations Now Open

The International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is held on 3 December, and we’d like you to help us encourage support for the dignity, rights and well-being of people with disability.

By theming your regular Branch morning tea, or initiating a discussion or debate at work you can help raise awareness about the continuing need to improve community accessibility for people with disability and the importance of breaking down barriers.

You can help us spread the conversation too.

  • Do you know another business or employer that would like to celebrate IDPwD?
  • Are you involved in a local community organisation that could host an event on or around 3 December?
  • Does your child’s school know about IDPwD?

Get in touch, pass on the information and help promote inclusiveness.

If you need some inspiration take a look at our website or consider some particularly creative examples from around the world last year. In Zurich, shopfronts displayed unique mannequins modelled on bodies with disabilities; UK students filmed their campaign on inclusivity and Vancouver residents attended a big celebration featuring an art show, mixed-abilities dance workshop and lively performances.

Closer to home, Queenslanders gathered to share stories about why laughter is the best medicine, Western Australian students gathered to watch a fully accessible screening of short films, in South Australia people picnicked in the Ada Ryan Gardens while playing a game of cricket, while others celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act and 21 years of International Day of People with Disability.

Once you have come up with your idea, make sure you register your event here. This allows us to track the celebrations and allows us to provide promotional products to add colour to your celebration.
