The Macquarie Group Foundation is calling for nominations for two awards, including one worth $100,000, which foster social innovation in the Not for Profit sector.
The Foundation says the awards recognise, promote and reward ideas that address social needs, and encourage lateral thinking about community issues.
The Macquarie Social Innovation Award provides an Australian NFP organisation that addresses an unmet community need with $100,000 to fund further investment in, or development of its program.
The Macquarie David Clarke Social Innovation Fellowship, established in memory of the former chairman of Macquarie Group and the Macquarie Group Foundation, provides the CEO of an Australian NFP organisation with a grant of up to $20,000 to visit and research best practice social innovation around the world.
This year, inaugural Macquarie David Clarke Social Innovation Fellowships are also being offered in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and New York City.
“This expansion of Fellowship grants provides opportunities for Not for Profits in these locations to develop improved responses to social issues in their field as well,” Macquarie Group Foundation Committee Chair Shemara Wikramanayake said.
“The David Clarke Fellowship honours David’s memory by paying tribute to one of the pioneers of corporate philanthropy in Australia. Understanding and developing best practice ways to address disadvantage is integral to making a difference.”
The head of the Macquarie Group Foundation, Lisa George said: “The 2012 winners of the Foundation’s biennial social innovation awards – Milk Crate Theatre and Claire Robbs as CEO of Life Without Barriers – were outstanding examples of how innovators seek new ways to support the disadvantaged in our community.”
The nomination period for both the Macquarie Social Innovation Award and David Clarke Social Innovation Fellowship closes on October 1, 2014.
The winner will be announced in November 2014.
