The Newsboys Foundation Leadership Awards nominations are now open for people who work or volunteer in community organisations and have inspired young Victorians to do great things.
The awards, which offer a total prize fund of $15,000, follows the success of inaugural awards in 2013. There will be two categories with prizes ranging from $5,000 to $10,000.
“The awards present a unique opportunity to honour and encourage a young leader and an established leader in the youth sector,” Newsboys Foundation CEO Sandy Shaw said.
The Newsboys Foundation Youth Leadership Award for those aged from 14 to 18 will go to a young person who has worked or volunteered with a community organisation and provided exceptional leadership within their community. It comes with $5,000 in prize money.
The prize will enable the winner to take up a scholarship to further their education or pursue positive social change in the Victorian community.
The Newsboys Foundation Community Leadership Award, for people aged 19 to 30 will go to an individual who has worked or volunteered with an organisation that supports young people in Victoria and has demonstrated inspiring leadership in helping those from disadvantaged backgrounds to overcome adversity and to realise their potential. It has a prize of $10,000.
The prize will enable the winner to undertake professional development such as further learning, travel, research, or project development.
Nominations will be reviewed by an eminent judging panel, chaired by Bernie Geary, Commissioner for Children and Young People.
Nominations close at 5pm on Monday September 1. Nomination forms are available on the Newsboys Foundation website, www.newsboysfoundation.org.au
