Legacy Council Names its First CEO

National veterans services peak body Legacy Australia Council has appointed its first Chief Executive Officer, in a bid to “consolidate Legacy’s work to date”.
The Legacy Australia Council board has appointed former army reservist Jenny Walker, who has 25 years’ experience in line management, project management and consulting strategic and operational roles, to the position based in Melbourne.
“The appointment of a CEO is an important step towards consolidating Legacy’s work to date whilst recognising the need to plan for how best we can meet the future needs of Legacy Beneficiaries for many years to come,” Legacy Australia Chairman David Gray said.
“Organisations today must continually adapt to meet the changing environment within which they operate.
“Legacy is no different and the changes we face today in terms of public expectations, the requirements of those we care for and the increased governance requirements on charities generally, must all be addressed.”
Legacy said for more than 90 years it has provided services to Australian families suffering financially and socially after the incapacitation or death of a spouse or parent, during or after their defence force service.
It said it cares for about 100,000 widows, children and disabled dependents through a network of 50 Legacy Clubs in Australia and London.
Incoming CEO Jenny Walker has tertiary qualifications in business and marketing and is a member of a number of professional organisations. She has worked in both public and private sector organisations where she has had 25 years’ experience in line management, project management and consulting strategic and operational roles.
She has served for 16 years in the Army Reserve, in the Australian Intelligence Corps, retiring at the rank of Major.
