‘Pozible’ Banking On Social Enterprise

Customer-owned bank, bankmecu has stepped into the online fundraising arena joining with crowdfunding platform Pozible to help fund new social enterprise projects.
The campaign, called Pick a Pledge, asks its customers to make a pledge towards a worthy community project via its Facebook page and highlighted on the crowdfunding website. The project with the most pledges at the end of each month gets $500 from bankmecu.
General Manager Development at bankmecu, Rowan Dowland says the bank started the project because they wanted to be able to give their customers choice about which issues they support and in turn what issues they want the bank to support.
“We’re working with Pozible because the crowdfunding model is a democratic approach to sourcing support, which fits with our own customer-owned model.This new partnership with Pozible is another way of adding value.
“We’ve chosen to run the project on our Facebook page because it’s engaging the younger customer base which are already tapped into initiatives such as crowdfunding – it’s a natural fit.
The three projects vying for pledges in March are:
A project to publish and distribute a comic to send a message to Australian citizens and asylum seekers alike that racism is not a national value, and that there are many people in our country who accept and welcome people seeking asylum in Australia. Profits from the sale of the comic will go to the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre.

Climate for Change is using the Tupperware party model to encourage people to have discussions about climate change and what they can do in their lives to live more sustainably.
The aim is to reach out to people who wouldn't normally join an environmental group, but who do care about what happens to the planet.
