Steggles Charity Nest Campaign

National poultry producer Steggles has called for applications for an Australian children's charity to become the 2014 Steggles Sydney Roosters “Charity of Choice”.

The 2014 Charity of Choice will join Lifestart, Children's Hospital Foundation Queensland and the Children's Cancer Institute Australia as part of the Steggles Roosters Charity Nest.

"Since February 2010 Steggles and the Sydney Roosters have raised more than $1,400,000 for Australian children's charities," Brand Manager Laurel Brown said.

"Funds will be donated to the Nest for every winning point scored by the Roosters throughout the 2014 NRL season and from various fundraising events.

"In 2013, the Steggles Roosters Charity Nest raised more than $466,000, which was shared amongst the four children's charities.”

Charities that have been supported by the campaign include the Special Olympics to assist athletes to get to the games, research by the Not for Profit Save Our Sons and the development of an App for the Royal Institute for the Deaf and Blind.

Steggles is part of a family-run business Baiada Poultry.

"We are a family-run business and very passionate about our relationships with the charities we have helped and giving back to the community," Brown said.

“The staff at our different work places are also very engaged using workplace giving and their own fundraising ideas such as barbecues to help in our Charity Nest.

"They are very competitive with one site having 100 per cent of staff signed on to workplace giving."

Brown said that while the company chooses a new charity to join the Charity Nest each year it was keen to maintain its relationships with them for the long term whether it was in cash or in-kind donations.

Children's charities have until January 18 to apply.
