Australian job seekers exploring their career options can get a helping hand through the upgraded myfuture website.

The national career information portal myfuture was set up in 2002 as a joint initiative of all Australian state and territory governments, and is operated by Education Services Australia.

The changes to myfuture were developed after in-depth research involving business and industry, young people and those who help others develop career related skills.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education Senator Scott Ryan said the myfuture site was a great resource for people of all ages, from students nearing the end of their studies, to people who are looking to change jobs.

"They can use it to explore their interests, identify potential jobs, and find out what qualifications and skills are required for those jobs. People can also access information on wages and regional job demand,” Senator Ryan said.

The upgraded website includes a new Assist Your Child feature, which was designed to meet the needs of those who have the biggest influence on children's career choices – parents.

"This portal gives parents up-to-date information on the options available to their children, so they can support them to make the best possible decisions about study and work," Senator Ryan said.

"The portal also offers new features for students, including a forum where they will be able to talk online to industry professionals from a range of fields. The new mobile versions will also make the site easier to navigate through smartphones and tablets."

"The upgraded site will help Australians successfully make the move into work or a new career, and is an invaluable resource for staff in educational, career and employment related settings.”

In 2013, the site has averaged more than two million page views per month.
