Wesley Mission has launched a new website that provides instant information on suicide prevention, crisis support and mental health services from any location in Australia.

The Wesley LifeForce Service Finder can search for crisis and mental health services by location, postcode or state, and is suitable for mobile phones.

“We are grateful for the funding provided by the Australian Government through the Department of Health which has enabled us to develop this vital public tool,” CEO of Wesley Mission, Rev Keith Garner said.

“The Wesley LifeForce Service Finder is designed to help reduce the stigma people feel when they seek help. It will also mean more people will get the support they need when they need it.”

Wesley LifeForce, which provides suicide prevention services to educate communities, started in 1995 in response to the growing suicide in Australia.

The  Wesley LifeForce team has worked alongside communities ranging from major cities and towns to regional and remote Australia, and run suicide prevention workshops.

At the workshops participants learn about the problem of suicide in Australia and vital skills about how to identify and support people at risk. Participants are also informed about how to access professional assistance and support.

More than 15,000 Australians have been trained through workshops conducted in communities as diverse as Derby in Western Australia and Narrabri in rural NSW.

Wesley LifeForce is also bringing together people and organisations who go on to develop their own local suicide prevention strategies and networks of support.

Readers seeking support and information about suicide prevention can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
