Social Enterprise Start-Up Grants

Westpac Foundation is offering start-up social enterprises the chance to get funding of up to $100,000 via its Seed grants.

The Foundation says these grants are tailored to up and coming enterprises that have the knowledge, skills and expertise to execute their business plans but are lacking the funds.

“Our Seed grants are an important part of our grant process, offering up and coming innovators the chance to get their social enterprise off the ground and become tomorrow’s social entrepreneurs,” Executive Officer of Westpac Foundation, Susan Bannigan said.

“Seed grants are also an entry point to our funding pipeline. As part of Westpac Foundation’s commitment to fostering long-term relationships with our communitypartners, successful organisations that are nearing the end of their funding period can then go on to apply for a Strengthen grant.”

100 Story Building, a recipient of a $95,000 Seed grant in 2012, runs creative writing workshops for children and young people from marginalised communities.

“Seed funding from Westpac Foundation has meant we can dramatically increase our programming and reach in 2013, with four major projects engaging more than 100 children,” CEO of 100 Story Building, Lachlann Carter said.

“We can now also establish and develop areas essential to 100 Story Building's long-term sustainability: social enterprise products, a centre for young writers in Footscray, a committed volunteer base and a robust evaluation strategy.”
