Research Agreement with Charity Regulator

The Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies at Queensland University of Technology has signed a memorandum of understanding about research co-operation with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
It is said to be the first MOU that the ACNC has signed with a party external to government agencies.
ACPNS Director, Professor Myles McGregor-Lowndes welcomed the MOU saying it provides significant opportunities for both organisations to work closely together on issues of mutual interest.
“ACPNS researchers and research students will be able to access ACNC data and plan joint research projects with ACNC staff,” Prof McGregor-Lowndes said.
“In many respects Australian charities have been a black hole in relation to their overall demographics, structures, compliance costs and activities and the new ACNC register will allow for the sector to access useful industry data.
”The openness of the ACNC to such arrangements is an example for other regulators who tend to closely hold data collected at significant cost from the sector.”
In June the ACNC and Australia’s corporate regulator, ASIC, signed an MOU agreeing to collaborate to deliver streamlined regulation for registered charities that are also registered with ASIC as companies. https://staging.probonoaustralia.com.au/news/2013/06/asic-and-acnc-sign-mou
