$1 million is to be distributed to Australian charities as part of the 30th anniversary of the Foundation set up by Hollywood Star Paul Newman – Paul Newman’s Own- in Australia.

Australian actors Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness are playing key roles in this year’s Newman's Own Foundation's $1USD million charity grants program.

Furness and Jackman are inviting Australian charities to apply for a Newman’s Own Foundation grant and will also help the Foundation in selecting the charities to receive grants up to $75,000.

“Paul Newman was an inspirational philanthropist and Deborra-lee and I share his belief that we all have the opportunity to make a difference,” Jackman said.

“His commitment to making the world a better place has assisted over 1000 Aussie charities since 1983 and we look forward to adding our support in this 30th Anniversary year.”

Newman’s Own Foundation President and CEO Robert Forrester said, “Hugh and Deborra-lee have demonstrated an ongoing personal commitment to philanthropy and they were the obvious choice to add their voice to Paul Newman’s legacy and the Foundation’s support of Australian charities.”

This year’s $1 million in Foundation grants will be directed towards two priority areas:

Children with Life-Limiting Conditions – organisations that enhance the quality of life for children with life-limiting medical conditions, and/or for whom the experience of childhood has been disrupted by circumstances beyond their control.

Empowerment – organisations that empower people to overcome extraordinary adverse circumstances, and/or provide equal access to human rights and contribute to the development of a civil society.

Newman’s Own Foundation turns all net profits and royalties from the sale of Paul Newman’s Own products into charitable donations.

To date, Paul Newman and Newman’s Own Foundation have given over $19 million to Australian and New Zealand charities.

Newman’s Own Foundation expression of interest forms can be downloaded at www.paulnewmansown.com.au and will close 24 May 2013. Charities can apply for individual grants of up to $75,000.
