Charity to Attract Philanthropic Funding to Schools

A new charity set up to help schools access philanthropic funding has appointed its first Chief Executive Officer.
The interim Chairman of the new charity, Australian Schools Plus, and founder and CEO of Social Venture Australia, Michael Traill has announced the appointment of Rosemary Conn as Chief Executive Officer.
Traill said Conn brought a wealth of experience from management and consulting roles at Beacon Foundation, CAF Australia, Impetus Private Equity Foundation, and Deloitte to the role.
“Schools Plus will work with schools and school communities to build their capacity to fundraise, as well as facilitate partnerships between corporate sponsors and philanthropic individuals and schools in greatest need,” he said.
“It will also aim to provide a unique mechanism for individuals to make donations to schools and receive a tax deduction, opening up funding opportunities for school communities across the country.”
Traill said the new CEO’s first task would be to secure the final approval for Schools Plus’ previously lodged application for DGR status from the Federal Government, so the organisation could accelerate its impact on a sustainable basis.
“Through Schools Plus, schools previously lacking resources will now have the means to give additional support to students throughout their education, enabling them to achieve better educational outcomes,” Rosemary Conn said.
Australian Schools Plus was founded with the support of a member group including The Smith Family, Social Ventures Australia, The Australian Business Community Network, Public Education Foundation, Foundation for Young Australians, Australian Council for Education Research, Schools Connect and Philanthropy Australia.
