Movember Moves on Mental Health

The national Movember campaign has announced an $8 million funding opportunity for collaborative, innovative mental health projects.
The Movember Foundation is calling for proposals from organisations that wish to collaboratively develop new mental health projects that will contribute to change at the population level, with a specific focus on prevention, early intervention and stigma reduction.
In July this year Movember CEO and co-founder Adam Garone announced that Movember was expanding its strategic priorities for men’s mental health in Australia.
“In line with Movember’s global mental health strategy recently approved by the Movember Board, Movember will now address an expanded number of key mental health challenges affecting Australian men and boys, including but not limited to anxiety and depression,” Garone said.
“Many of the Mo Bros and Mo Sistas that participate in the campaign have had their lives touched by mental illness. Movember acknowledges their commitment to raising funds and awareness, by investing in innovative interventions and research programs for mental health.
“Over the past 12 months we have reviewed our global mental health strategy, and decided to prioritise our mental health investment in the areas of prevention and promotion, early intervention and destigmatisation – across the spectrum of mental health issues faced by men and boys.”
The following key priority areas have been identified for this funding opportunity:
- Creating mentally healthy workplaces and workers;
- Strengthening the mental health and wellbeing of men and boys;
- Reducing the number of men and boys who die by suicide;
- Strengthening social and emotional skills in young men and boys.
This funding opportunity is designed to support multi-organisational, inter-disciplinary teams across a range of sectors. It's an exciting opportunity to collaboratively achieve significant results in boys' and men's mental health.
