QBE Foundation Partners with Defence ‘Mates’

The QBE Foundation has announced what it describes as a unique charity partnership working with current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and their families.
The QBE Foundation, the philanthropic arm of insurance giant QBE, is donating $60,000 to Mates4Mates – a Not for Profit organisation set up by RSL (Queensland Branch) to provide support to the wounded, injured or ill members of the ADF community and their families.
The funds will support the employment of Wounded Soldier Liaison Officers who will act as an integral point of contact between members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), their families and Mates4Mates.
“The roles, to be filled by candidates who are themselves wounded Australian soldiers, will facilitate relationships with current and ex-serving members of the ADF and encourage them and their families to take up the various support services available to them through Mates4Mates,” QBE Foundation Chairman Tony MacRae said.
Other responsibilities will include supporting Mates4Mates’ events, adventures program and providing direct and confidential assistance to soldiers and their families.
“The QBE Foundation is delighted to partner with Mates4Mates to make the Wounded Soldier Liaison roles possible," MacRae said.
“A wounded soldier looking after the interests of others is a model example of the Foundation’s philosophy, to help people overcome disadvantage, strengthen their abilities, and live more independently, successfully and productively.
“We feel that supporting the creation of this key role will be crucial in helping Australia’s wounded soldiers and their families on their journey to rehabilitation and the challenging transition from military service into civilian life.”
“These roles embody the very heart of Mates4Mates – mates looking out for mates, providing unwavering support when it is needed most,” Michael Quinn, Chief Operating Officer, Mates4Mates said.
“This donation will not only strengthen our core capabilities at Mates4Mates but it will also serve to provide long-term support and mentorship for our Brave Mates and their families.”
The QBE Foundation supports charities that help people overcome disadvantage.
