ARENA Theatre Productions WA is celebrating its second win in the competition
Fun, energy and creativity were the cut-through ingredients that led to this entry from a not-for-profit community theatre in Perth taking the win in week three of the Poli-Pix competition.
The snap, which impressed judge Mike Bowers, shows the Member for Perth, Patrick Gorman, getting into the act with ARENA Theatre Productions WA, which is calling on all MPs to stand up for the arts.
ARENA’s chair and artistic director Simon Love told Our Community, “Hit hard by COVID, the arts sector needs ongoing support from governments, from the grassroots and up”.
Throughout the election ARENA has welcomed politicians of all stripes to hear how community theatre contributes to flourishing communities and brighter futures.
You might recognise the NFP from week one of the competition, where it received one of three prizes for its photo with candidate for Swan, Kristy McSweeney.
It means the recently formed theatre has now snapped up $3,000 in prizes for its dramatic photographs featuring campaigning federal candidates.
The extra attention had sparked a spike in ARENA’s Facebook followers, with the not-for-profit association planning to repeat its zombie show over Halloween and the next Perth Fringe Festival.
This round of Poli-Pix also saw a highly commended entry from earlier in the election from Love in Action Wallen.

Poli-pix is a contest created in collaboration by CCA and Our Community. Entries are judged on a weekly basis by highly respected Australian news photographer Mike Bowers.
Weekly entries close each Thursday COB until the election, and a $2,000 grand prize will be awarded for best picture.
