About the role

SecondBite rescue over 24 million kilograms of food from landfill in a year. With only ~70 paid staff across the country, we’re in need of more hands to help sort the food ready to feed food insecure Aussies.
Join us for a morning of life-impacting volunteering at our SecondBite warehouse in Penrith.
Starting your day at 9am, you will be given an overview of the work SecondBite does, and a tour of the warehouse space.
Then you’ll get into work! Unpacking, sorting and repacking rescued food into hampers for our community partners to give to food-insecure Aussies in need.
The full session runs from 9am – 12.30pm. These times are approximate and may run over or under based on the size of your team (and how much team bonding is happening between sorting!).
One in five Australians experiences food insecurity. Someone you know, or that you work with, or maybe it’s you – is missing one or more meals daily. Making the choice to keep the heating on over the freezing cold nights, or to ensure your child or pet has food in their tummy, over being able to eat a nutritious meal for yourself.
Supporting SecondBite through volunteering allows more hampers to reach those who need it most.
Total cost: $1,750 + optional catering @ $25 per person
About the organisation
SecondBite rescue edible surplus food from growers, manufacturers and retailers and distribute it free of charge to approx. 1,100 charities and not-for-profit organisations to feed Aussies in need. Our partners use the rescued food for nourishing meals, emergency relief packages, community pantries and much more.
One in five Aussies are affected by food insecurity and don’t have enough safe, nutritious food. This can badly affect their physical, emotional and social wellbeing. SecondBite makes sure that good food is getting to people who need it most, rather than to landfill.
SecondBite is the most efficient national food rescue organisation in Australia. Our combined Community Connect and Direct Delivery models of food rescue and distribution keeps our operating costs low. This means that for every $1 you donate, we distribute enough food for up to 5 meals.
