The size of the global impact investing market is over $1 trillion for the first time, reflecting ongoing market growth.
Impact investment assets under management worldwide are valued at $1.164 trillion, according to research from the New York-based Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN).
It marks the first time the valuation has surpassed $1 trillion, a development bolstered by two areas: green bonds and corporate impact investing practices.
The report, 2022: Sizing the Impact Investing Market, shows that since their introduction in 2008, green bonds are increasingly becoming more widely used by both private and public organisations.
Improvements in corporate investing practices are being driven by shareholder pressure to invest cash reserves productively, and stakeholder demands for companies to help address major global challenges.
“While the market growth to $1.164 trillion serves as a very positive sign for impact investing, it is also a call for further action,” said GIIN co-founder and CEO Amit Bouri.
“Investing more capital with an intentional focus to generate positive impact is required right now if we truly want to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.”
