Poli-pix round four: Shooting through the wire

This week’s $2,000 Poli-Pix prize goes to Give Our Strays a Chance in WA.
Dean Morris is changing the world “one stray at a time”, working with businesses, the community and hospitals to raise awareness and donations for animals in need.
Since starting GOSAC – Give Our Strays A Chance when he was just 10 years old, he has raised over a million dollars and saved countless lives.
He is this week’s winner of the $2,000 Poli-Pix prize.
The winning shot shows WA Senate candidate Amanda Dorn, from the Animal Justice Party WA, pictured with Morris, and Sox who is looking for a home and a family.
Poli-pix judge and photographer-at-large for the Guardian Australia, Mike Bowers, said: “I think shooting through the wire with the pollie and dog is great, and communicates everything it needs to about their values and what they represent.”
This round of Poli-Pix also saw two highly commended entries for CleftPALS Victoria and AIEOU Foundation, who will each receive $500.
CleftPALS Victoria knows now is a great time to engage with federal candidates like Member for Dunkley, Peta Murphy MP, to advance its cause and why it’s important for the community.
AEIOU Foundation welcomed Senator Anne Ruston, minister for family and social services, and Senator for New South Wales Hollie Hughes to its Nathan centre in Brisbane where the Coalition committed $1 million towards the National Autism Strategy.
Poli-pix is a contest created in collaboration by CCA and Our Community. Entries are judged on a weekly basis by highly respected Australian news photographer Mike Bowers.
As well as weekly prizes, a $2,000 grand prize will be awarded for best picture overall.
