Last year, one in five Aussies quit their jobs, and in 2022, nearly one quarter of workers are considering doing the same. 

This phenomenon has been coined “the great resignation”, and is the reason you’ve probably waved goodbye to one (or more) of your colleagues.

Often when someone moves on, it can make you reconsider your entire career and how content you are in your current job. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s also time for you to 

Of course, if you’re desperately unhappy and know that it’s time to move on, don’t let this article stop you. But, with every challenge comes opportunity, so read on to find out what you should do next. 

Be honest, be positive 

But while the idea of being left behind could leave you with a feeling of inertia, don’t let this influence any big life decisions you’re about to make. 

Staying put actually takes a lot of courage so it’s important to let the dust settle and think honestly about why you might want to leave, or stay, in your current job. 

Develop a plan 

Take new people coming into your organisation as a chance to refresh your own job. While your new colleagues are going through their on-boarding process, you can map out a plan of “re-onboarding” yourself as well. 

Drawing up a playbook designed to help you excel in your job will open your eyes to new opportunities and hopefully reinvigorate your passion for your job. 

Start afresh 

An influx of new faces in your organisation is also an opportunity to make cultural or structural changes to your team and organisation. An established team of people makes it hard to bring in new ideas or make changes sometimes, so use this gap to put forward your ideas to management and make it a fresh start for everyone!
