“This advisory group will help ensure our news service continues to give voice to the vitality and diversity of our sector and speak to the issues of greatest importance to the for-purpose sector.”
Pro Bono News has appointed a new editorial advisory board to help ensure the news service meets and reacts to the varying needs of the communities it serves.
A diverse group of nine leaders from across the span of the social economy – which covers not for profits, social enterprises, impact investing, volunteering, corporate social responsibility and philanthropy – have been appointed for a one year term.
As board members they will inform the news service by sharing their thoughts, expertise and vision over the next 12 months.
Pro Bono Australia founder and CEO Karen Mahlab AM said she was delighted to welcome such an esteemed group of sector experts, and looked forward to working with them to ensure Pro Bono News continues to inform and inspire the sector.
“Our aim was to gather an advisory board that represented an informed and diverse group of Australian voices; across cultures, geography, areas of expertise, and social economy sectors,” Mahlab said.
“Their work over the years means they are well networked, well informed, highly engaged, and have contributed significant expertise to the social sector.
“This advisory group will help ensure our news service continues to give voice to the vitality and diversity of our sector and speak to the issues of greatest importance to the for-purpose sector.”
The advisory board was introduced at Pro Bono News for the first time last year – with a group of 13 leaders sharing their advice and wisdom over the past year.
Mahlab said it had been a wonderful addition, with many learnings coming from the conversations and shared insights with leading members of the purpose sector. She thanked the outgoing board members for their invaluable contribution throughout 2020.
“We are very grateful to our inaugural board for joining us and helping shape our news service,” she said.
“It was a rare opportunity to have cross-sector conversations about what matters to this sector and how Pro Bono News can help. I am excited to see what this next year will bring.”
While the role of the board is to advise and help inform the overall direction of the news service, editorial control remains with editor Wendy Williams.
