From x-rated to eco-friendly: Adult store joins zero waste movement

An eco-conscious sex shop is set to become the first adult retailer in New Zealand to roll out completely recyclable and compostable packaging.
With the business delivering over 1,500 packages a day globally, Adulttoymegastore (ATMS) has teamed up with eco-friendly packaging company R3pack to replace the plastic bubble wrap and hard to recycle materials with compostable bags and non-plastic packaging.
The courier bags are both home and commercially compostable, made from a cornstarch PLA and other biodegradable materials such as biodegradable thermoplastic, PBAT.
ATMS founder Nicola Relph said it was an important first step in reducing the company’s environmental footprint.
“This is a big step for us but we’re proud to be doing it,” Relph said.
“We wanted to walk the talk and show that even when sending out thousands of packages a day, all around the world, you can still do the right thing and put the planet before profit.”
She also said they had plans to set up an adult toy recycling programme.
“We want to lead the way, as New Zealand businesses often do, to make a difference,” she said.
