Struggling with the post-holiday blues? This might help

We find out how you can set yourself up for work success in 2020
The sound of your 6am alarm going off after a two week holiday is the stuff of nightmares.
But according to the managing director of Beaumont People, Nina Mapson Bone, lifting yourself out of the post-festive season slump isn’t the impossible task you might think it is.
We sat down with her to find out how to do it.
Hey Nina. Coming back to work this week was a bit tough. Is it normal to feel like this?
Yes, I think the first tip is to acknowledge that it can happen and acknowledge that it doesn’t mean you don’t like your job. Sometimes you can come back from a holiday and making that transition back to work is difficult, but it’s important to acknowledge and own those feelings.
So what can you do about it?
One of the best things you can do is get organised and set some goals for the year
to give you a bit of motivation for the year ahead. It might also be a good time to have a chat with your boss about the next step of your career. You might get some good direction and feedback on what you should work on for the year.
You can also use this time to book in meetings because it creates momentum and you have things to look ahead to and plan for.
Any advice on establishing good working habits for the year?
Absolutely. Taking a proper lunch break or going for a walk around the block during lunch can be good habits to get into. Doing these things can also help motivate you to get your work done. If you get a certain amount of work done by 12 pm, then as a reward you have a good lunch break and a walk.
What can you do at home to help you get through this slump?
It’s hard, but going to bed at a reasonable time, and getting up at the same time while you’re getting back into the swing of things can be really helpful in establishing a routine. Putting the physical before the mental can actually make life a bit easier to snap yourself out of the relaxed life you’ve led for the last two weeks.
