Rugby Australia is on the hunt for an official charity partner committed to making the sport “a game for all”.
The governing body for rugby union in Australia is looking for a charity to support the code’s four national teams – including the Wallabies and the Wallaroos – and promote the game’s core values.
Rugby Australia said the proposed three-year partnership offers the selected charity international exposure and exclusive opportunities to support their fundraising efforts.
The charity will also link with Rugby Australia’s current community partners including Disability Sports Australia, Pride in Sport, the Australian Deaf Rugby Team and Our Watch.
Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle said it was a unique opportunity for a charity to tap into a new community and leverage their brand, as well as giving the rugby community a chance to get behind a worthy cause.
‘’We’ve been fortunate to partner with some fantastic charities over the years and we’re looking forward to seeing the response from Australian charities during the application process,” Castle said
Rugby Australia said it is seeking a charity partner that aligns with the game’s core vision, which includes making rugby “a game for all” and igniting Australia’s “passion for the game”.
The charity partner would potentially be given access to players from each of the national teams, fundraising opportunities at Australian test matches, and the right to use Rugby Australia’s images and intellectual property.
The selection panel will include three Rugby Australia representatives, including Wallabies prop Tom Robertson.
Robertson said it was great to use rugby as a vehicle to raise the profile and drive funds for a new charity.
“We know that our fans are incredibly supportive when it comes to welcoming new people and organisations into the rugby family so I’m confident it will be a successful partnership,” Robertson said.
