Leave a Gift of Love

Peninsula Animal Aid is encouraging people to leave a gift of love in their will to help fund vital animal services.

Operating in Clontarf, Queensland, since 1971, the “no kill” shelter houses 150 cats and dogs at any one time, taking in and re-homing stray, abandoned and surrendered animals, which PAA says is a vital service within the Redcliffe and Moreton Bay community.

The organisation, which is run by 120 volunteers, relies wholly on donations from community members.

Anne Carmichael, Peninsula Animal Aid (PAA) vice president, says: “These wonderful people are our lifeline. Without their support we would not be able to continue the high level of care for the animals.”

The cost of food, medications, running costs and vet bills, is extremely high. The vet bills alone are in excess of $127,000 a year.  

PAA is now ramping up calls for donations, both within and outside its immediate community.

Leaving a gift in a will is a great way for people to make a difference to an important issue and support their chosen organisation.

PAA hopes the public keep the organisation on their radar when making these important decisions. It says it’s not only an amazing way to leave a lasting impact and legacy, but it helps a vital community service that really needs the extra support.

Financial donations are also of enormous assistance. As PAA is a registered charity, all donations are tax deductible.

Those interested in supporting PAA can also become a pen sponsor, volunteer, buy items from PAA’s pet wishlist, or purchase PAA’s latest pet calendar.   

Ultimately, it’s PAA’s aim to reunite stray animals with their owners and to place unclaimed and surrendered animals into permanent loving and caring families.

“Adopting a dog or cat as a new life-long friend is a wonderful thing to do,” Carmichael says.

“There is nothing like the unconditional love of a cat or a dog.”
