Launch of Global NGO Tech Survey
5 March 2019 at 8:40 am

Australians are being encouraged to take part in the “world’s only crowdsourced research project for the not-for-profit sector”.

The Global NGO Technology Survey is a biennial research project seeking a better understanding of how charitable organisations worldwide use technology to engage their supporters and donors.

This year, the initiative sponsored by Funraise and researched by Nonprofit Tech for Good is bringing together 24 organisations from around the world to increase the diversity and geographical range of the survey respondents.

Heather Mansfield, founder of Nonprofit Tech for Good, said the survey aimed to fill a gap in research and provide useful data and benchmarks for NGOs worldwide.

“Countless organisations from all over the world have contacted me over the years to express frustration that there is very little data about how organisations outside the US, the UK, or Australia use technology. That was the inspiration behind launching the first survey and report in 2016,” Mansfield said.

“We learned quickly that to reach a diverse audience worldwide we were going to have to partner with organisations around the world who could help promote the survey to NGOs in their countries – and that we needed to have the survey in multiple languages.

“This year we have 24 partners across the globe and the survey is in English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. As far as I know, it is the world’s only crowdsourced, multilingual survey and report for the not-for-profit sector.”

Pro Bono Australia is the Australian partner for the survey.

Funraise has come on board as a new sponsor this year and will also be sponsoring the 2020 Global Trends in Giving Report.

Justin Wheeler, CEO of Funraise, said Nonprofit Tech for Good and its partners were doing the nonprofit sector “a huge service” by exploring the ways that technology is evolving the face of fundraising.

“We’re excited to discover how technology is changing the world for nonprofits that are changing the world,” Wheeler said.

This year’s questions focus on web and email communications, online fundraising, social media, data management, and productivity software.

The survey closes 31 May. Take part in the survey here.

The findings will be released in September, in the fourth edition of the Global NGO Technology Report.
