The 2018 ACOSS “Rise to the Challenge” National Conference will be held at the SMC Conference and Function Centre, 66 Goulburn St, Sydney on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 October.

The ACOSS National Conference has been a key event for civil society in Australia for over six decades.

Each year hundreds of thought leaders, policy makers, political leaders, social innovators, practitioners, academics, campaigners, community leaders and social justice advocates come together to engage in collective public policy analysis, discussion and debate; identifying challenges and strategising solutions with the view to address poverty and inequality and enhance social cohesion in Australia.

This year we will be tackling Australia’s most pressing issues including: How do we address poverty and inequality? What are the consequences of welfare conditionality and high tech tools that police and punish the poor? How do we persuade decision makers? What can we do to make Australia a truly inclusive country in light of migration, and cultural and race diversity? How can we solve our energy challenges in an equitable and inclusive manner?

These are just some of the topics we will be discussing using expert facilitators, panellists and intimate breakout sessions ensuring maximum participation by conference delegates in and out of the room.

Gillian Triggs speaking at ACOSS conferenceSome of the country’s most exciting thought leaders will drive conversations and workshops including, ABC Radio presenter Paul Barclay; Professor Peter Dwyer, University of York; Virginia Eubanks, The State University of New York; Dr Ingrid Burkett, director of Systems Innovation, The Australian Centre for Social Innovation; Kerry Graham, director, Collective Impact Australia; Rod Little, co-chair, National Congress; and Dr Cassandra Goldie, CEO, ACOSS.

Conference panellists include high profile national and international leading thinkers, CEOs, academics and policy experts. As per previous years, leaders of Australia’s political parties will address the audience and answer your questions.

This is an event not to be missed. As a decision maker, leader in research and advocacy or if you are at the forefront of service delivery make sure you are part of the 400 delegates that attend the ACOSS conference every year.

We hope you can join us for this important event.
