An Australian charity is launching a “spicy” fundraising campaign, encouraging people to enjoy a curry with friends while raising funds for poverty-stricken families in Asia.
On Tuesday, Opportunity International Australia announced artisan Australian spice business, Herbie’s Spices, as a “proud supporter” of its Great Australian Curry fundraising campaign.
Herbie’s will provide spicy gifts to encourage Australian families to cook up a curry, share it with friends and raise funds to help end poverty in countries such as India, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Opportunity International Australia CEO Meredith Scott said: “It’s fabulous that Herbie’s Spices has jumped [on board] to motivate Aussie families to raise funds so families in developing countries can end the poverty in which they have lived for generations.”
Funds raised through the campaign will help Opportunity provide small loans to families in need, helping them build their own businesses, earn regular incomes and provide for their children.
Herbie’s Spices founder Ian Hemphill said he was pleased to give a boost to the campaign.
“As most spices originate from developing countries, we’re keen to support a campaign that strives to improve the lives of people in these spice-producing communities,” Hemphill said.
“Being in the spice business, and considering the importance of spices in all curries, supporting the Great Australian Curry is a logical fit.
“We’d love to see Aussie families support families in developing countries who are doing it tough, while enjoying beautifully spiced food.”
