New Platform Looks to Improve Charity Sector Transparency

Donors will be able to access privileged information about Australian charities before making a donation, with the launch of a new platform looking to improve transparency and accountability in the charity sector.

The Impact Suite is an online platform launched on Monday which gives donors access to each charity’s information including funding mix, purpose, impact measures, and adherence to corporate governance.

The platform builds this information into an artificial intelligence driven organisational sustainability model, offering donors the ability to compare charities in each sector and against sector benchmarks.

The Impact Suite chair, Sandra McCullagh, said the platform makes it clear for donors which charities directly align with their intentions.

“The site helps donors navigate the maze of Australia’s 56,000 charities and not for profits, to shine a light on individual charities and assist donors in making better decisions,” McCullagh said.

“Donors want confidence that the charity or not-for-profit is directing their donations in alignment with the charity’s stated purpose.”

The Impact Suite’s founders believe the platform will also empower charities to meet best practice, by allowing them to benchmark against similar charities to determine whether improvements need to be made in their corporate governance.

Co-founder Darren Howlin said: “The tool will help ethical charities build trust with donors, clearing the pathway to relationships that can improve the world and create greater impact.”
