Jonathon Grapsas from flat earth direct tells us a bit more about why he has decided to host this amazing opportunity.
“I’ve known Dan for a few years now since working with charities in Canada. Having stayed in touch I was aware that The Bolder Board training he had delivered over the last 18 months in North America was really turning things around for charities that had participated,” says Jonathon.
Dan Pallotta invented the multi-day charitable event industry with the AIDSRides and Breast Cancer 3-Days, which raised over half a billion dollars in nine years and were the subject of one of the first Harvard Business School case studies on social enterprise.
His 2013 TED talk on philanthropy is one of the 100 most-viewed TED talks of all time. His book, Uncharitable, is the best-selling title in the history of Tufts University Press. The Stanford Social Innovation Review said that it, “deserves to become the nonprofit sector’s new manifesto”. He is a regular contributor to Harvard Business Review online. He is widely credited with changing the national conversation about impact and overhead in charity in America.
“Here at flat earth direct we spend a lot of time working with smaller organisations. Charities that are doing incredible work, but are desperate to grow so that they can reach even more beneficiaries. And we all know that the pathway to growth begins with the vision and tone set by the board and the CEO,” Jonathon says.
“I simply could not think of anyone better to help Aussie charities do that than Dan.”

The Bolder Board training is like no other. It helps charity boards awaken, articulate and pursue their most magnificent dreams. It teaches boards how to work with their CEOs to create audacious possibilities for impact. It is the first board training designed specifically to offer boards a pragmatic and conscientious alternative to the culture of financial deprivation and constriction that they often find themselves upholding.
It is not a traditional training on governance and finance. It is an immersion in possibility and aspiration that positively and radically disrupts traditional ways of thinking. It is part lecture, part workshop. It is designed specifically for boards. Organisations are encouraged to bring as many of their board members as possible.
According to Jonathon tickets “are limited and selling fast”.
“We have had entire boards book for some of our clients and we are so excited to be working with them on this, it is the springboard to raising a serious amount of money to deliver desperately needed services.”
