Bank Wins Award for Social and Environmental Impact

A bank which has committed to “doing good” in its community, for the environment and for its employees has been recognised for its innovation in corporate social responsibility.

Beyond Bank was awarded the Best Bank in Corporate Social Responsibility at the Australian Banking and Finance Retail Banking Awards in Sydney in late May.

In 2016, Beyond Bank invested 9 per cent of its net profit into community partnerships and programs, issued 13 grants and more than $180,000 to support startups and reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 4.2 per cent.

The 100 per cent customer-owned bank also encouraged staff to achieve better work-life balance and give back to the community by providing three work-life balance days and two community leave days per year.

Beyond Bank CEO Robert Keogh said the desire to be the “best bank” for the community had become a part of the company’s “cultural DNA”.

“It is a commitment that extends across our network from the staff at the front counter to the call centre to the executive team, we are driven by our values every day and use them to guide our
decision making and help create a sustainable future,” Keogh said.

During 2016, 2,992 hours were volunteered by staff in the bank’s community partnerships programs.

“These numbers really sum up the way we do business, and they are possible because of the strong support we receive from the community, it’s an important part of our strategy of doing good by doing good,” Keogh said.

In 2015 Beyond Bank became the first bank in Australia to achieve B Corp status which commits a corporation to meeting rigorous world standards of social and environmental performance.
