Charities are being called on to put their best foot forward and show they know what it takes to run a successful business.
For the second time, the Telstra Business Awards has opened nominations for a Charity Award to recognise the significant contribution charities make to Australian communities and the economy.
Now in their 25th year, the Telstra Business Awards are renowned for showcasing and celebrating the achievements and entrepreneurial spirit of Australia’s small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), and charities.
Last year, the inaugural Charity Award went to the Snowdome Foundation in collaboration with Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision.
Snowdome CEO, Miriam Dexter, said winning the award opened more doors for them and enabled them to proactively engage in new opportunities.
“All of our stakeholders felt like they were part of the win and that they had backed a winner,” Dexter said.
“The award win gave us a third-party stamp of approval which adds credibility and that is hugely important for charities and not for profits.
“Winning the award gave us greater credibility and proves that we know what it takes to not just run a charity, but to run a successful business.”
Dexter said leading up to the state and national awards the organisation, which helps those fighting against blood cancers and bone marrow failure syndromes, received many messages of encouragement from a variety of supporters.
“Our donors, pro bono partners, volunteers and other stakeholders were all thrilled that we were nominated,” she said.
“And then when we won, they all felt like they were part of the win. It was a very exciting time.”
Telstra Business Awards ambassador Andy Ellis said the Charity Award category was a great reflection of the significant contribution that not for profits have on Australian communities.
“We encourage all to nominate a charity for the 2017 Telstra Business Awards, as it is an opportunity to give these important organisations the recognition they deserve,” Ellis told Pro Bono Australia News.
“Nominations are open for the 2017 Telstra Business Awards and Australians are encouraged to recognise brilliant businesses by nominating them in one of five categories, including the recently introduced Charity Award.”
Anyone can nominate a business or charity and business owners are also welcome to nominate themselves.
People can nominate in any of the five categories:
- New Business (operating for one to three years with up to 200 employees)
- Micro Business (with five or less employees)
- Small Business (with more than five and up to 20 employees)
- Medium Business (with more than 20 and up to 200 employees)
- Charity (ACNC registered with DGR status, between one and 200 employees and an annual income of between $250,000 and $10 million).
Nominees must submit their entries between Monday 30 January 2016 and Thursday 16 March 2016.
