Best Community Organisations to be Honoured

Nominations are open for the West Australian 2016 Community Services Excellence Awards to find the most dedicated and innovative community service organisations in that state.
WA Community Services Minister Tony Simpson said the biennial awards recognised outstanding Western Australian organisations committed to improving the lives of others.
“The awards celebrate the important role of the community sector in making a positive difference to people, families and communities,” Simpson said.
“The state government is aware that community service organisations are the backbone of our communities, and provides about $28 million annually to support the sector.
“These awards reflect the ongoing commitment of the government and the community sector to work together to provide the best possible outcomes for all West Australians.”
The Community Services Excellence Awards are presented by the Western Australian Council of Social Service (WACOSS) in partnership with the government.
This year’s program includes a new category that recognises successful collaborations between community service organisations, local governments and local communities.
Other categories include awards for small, medium, large and regional organisations, citizen empowerment, and recognition for outstanding commitment to reconciliation.
Previous award winners include Fair Game WA, Derby, a charity using recycled sports equipment to deliver fitness programs in communities of need, and Rise Network, Midland, which opened WA’s first safe house in 2008 for girls aged 14 to 18.
Nominations are open until 10 March, 2016.
