Red Cross and Uber Partner for Donation Collection

The Australian Red Cross and ride-sharing service Uber are partnering for a “clothing drive” to collect donations for charity shops following the gift-giving season.
On Sunday 31 January between 11am and 4pm Uber drivers will make house-calls to pick up preloved goods or unwanted Christmas gifts and deliver them to Red Cross shops.
The drive will take place in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Geelong, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and the Sunshine Coast.
Marketing Manager for Red Cross Shops, Kate Dear, praised Uber’s engagement with the organisation
“The more donations we receive the more we are able to support the work of Red Cross around Australia,” Dear said.
“You get a good feeling when you donate to a Red Cross shop.”
She said the proceeds from Red Cross shops helped support the everyday work of Red Cross, including daily phone calls for elderly people who live alone, breakfast for school children and clean drinking water for remote communities.
To take part, the Uber website said to prepare donations, open the app between 11am and 4pm and slide across to the clothing drive option. An Uber driver-partner will then collect donations and take them to the nearest Red Cross shop free of charge.
Dear asked participants for their patience as Uber drivers might not be available straight away.
“Only donate quality clothing and gifts that are readily saleable,” she said.
“Donations must be taken to the vehicle as drivers cannot leave their vehicles unattended.”
