Women’s Week Grant Program

Queensland’s inaugural Women’s Week program will include $75,000 in grants to support events and activities that celebrate the achievements of women and girls.

In 2016 the Queensland Government will expand International Women’s Day celebrations to a week-long series of events and activities called Queensland Women’s Week.

The Government said the week would recognise and celebrate the achievements of all Queensland women, with activities taking place throughout the state’s urban, rural, regional and remote communities.

“We are delighted to have $75,000 under this new funding program to share across the state,” Minister for Women, Shannon Fentiman, said.

YWCA Queensland is coordinating the inaugural Queensland Women’s Week on behalf of the Queensland Government, including the grants programs.

“I encourage all eligible organisations to run an event during Queensland Women’s Week to recognise and celebrate the contributions women make to our community,” YWCA Queensland CEO, Kate Tully, said.

Fentiman said YWCA Queensland had empowered women and girls to be active decision makers for more than 125 years.

“They have assisted women and girls through leadership programs, community housing, training and job preparation and provided refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence. I am delighted to have them on board for this very important work in further empowering Queensland women,” she said.

Ideas for grant activities include workshops, forums or networking events that celebrate women’s achievements, highlight non-traditional career paths, or support a particular women’s group or issue plus intergenerational events, cultural days, or community festivals or awards.
