NDIS Roll Out Continues on Target

More than 19,700 people are signed on to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, with more than $1.2 billion invested in services and equipment, according to the latest Quarterly Report released Thursday.

The National Disability Insurance Agency said these figures show that the NDIS is being delivered within time and budget targets, benefiting people with disability, their families and carers.

Overall, 22,960 participants were eligible for the scheme; 109 per cent of the target. Of this number 19,758 participants had their plan approved, which is 94 per cent of the target and an increase of 2,455 plans since last quarter.

The NDIS said participant satisfaction also remained high. Satisfaction is measured on a scale of very poor (-2) to very good (+2), with neutral being 0, with the current average at 1.63.

The cost of the average package, excluding residents of large institutions, is $34,831 which is below the anticipated average of $38,600.

NDIA Chief Executive Officer, David Bowen, said the NDIS will continue to benefit more Australians as the Scheme moves towards a full roll out by 2019.

“The Scheme is making a real difference to the lives of people with disability, their families and carers,” Bowen said.

“From July next year the NDIS will roll out more widely across Australia. Ultimately, around 460,000 Australians, their families and carers will benefit from the NDIS.”

The Quarterly Report also said the NDIA will continue to develop an outcomes framework to comprehensively monitor the Scheme’s progress.

“We will continue to closely monitor the Scheme’s roll-out to ensure the NDIS is sustainable for generations to come,” Bowen said.
