Australian start-ups developing innovative technology to enhance the lives of people with disability will pitch their ideas at the National Disability Insurance Scheme Conference next month.
The NDIS New World Pitch competition is a joint Social Traders and NDIS initiative seeking ideas that will assist people with disability.
Managing Director of Social Traders, David Brookes, said the NDIS New World Pitch is an opportunity to support the growth of social enterprise in Australia.
“The competition is looking for forward-thinking start-ups that use innovative and effective technology to transform the lives of people with disability, their families and carers. Already interest is building and we are excited and optimistic about what might be uncovered,” Brookes said.
National Disability Insurance Agency CEO, David Bowen, said the competition was a way to encourage forward thinking start-ups to consider the technology needs for people with disability and unearth advanced technological solutions.
“The NDIS is at the cutting edge of service and support delivery to Australians with disability. We know that to continue to improve this service we must support discoveries in technology,” Bowen said.
“NDIS New World Pitch will encourage start-ups to think about real solutions and technological inventions in the disability sector.
“It will also provide three leading start-ups with unrivalled access to an engaged audience of 1,500 conference participants, including representatives of leading technology organisations.”
Three finalists, to be announced on 5 October, will pitch their ideas at the NDIS New World: Disability in the 21st Century Conference and Trade Show at the Brisbane Conference and Exhibition Centre, from 27 to 29 October 2015. The winner of the competition will also receive the Pitch prize of $2000 thanks to Tunstall Health.
