Australia’s largest hunger relief organisation, Foodbank, says it successfully delivered seven million serves of food to Australians in need last month, with the help of a growing list of corporate partners, in its first Food Fight campaign.
Iconic food brands, including Kellogg’s, SPC and Ardmona, Wonder White and Helga’s, Vetta, Primo Smallgoods, Maccona and Harris Coffee, responded to Foodbank’s call for provisions to meet what the Not for Profit said was Australia’s growing demand for food welfare.
Food Fight products were stocked in retail outlets across Australia, including Coles, Woolworths and IGA stores, allowing customers to help fight hunger by doing their weekly shop. A donation was made to Foodbank each time a participating product was sold.
Foodbank Australia CEO, Jason Hincks, said corporate partnerships were essential in helping the organisation achieve a successful result in what had been its largest campaign.
"It's tremendous to see our Food Fight campaign reach its goal of raising seven million serves of food,” Hincks said
“This couldn't have happened without the mighty support of our amazing food industry partners, suppliers, ambassadors and of course the public – who all played their part in our fight against hunger in Australia.”
Celebrity ambassadors and professional chefs also supported the campaign including, Kylie Gillies from The Morning Show, Colin Fassnidge from My Kitchen Rules, Scott Pickett from The Hot Plate, Adam D'Sylva, Jerry Mai, Oliver Gould, Raymond Capaldi and Simon Moss.
While more than 500,000 people in Australia access food relief each month, including low income families, the unemployed, the elderly and refugees, Foodbank said many vulnerable Australians continued to go hungry.
“The fight isn’t over. Over 60,000 of the Australians seeking food relief are still unable to be assisted, with over two thirds of agencies unable to meet the full demand for food relief,” Hincks said.
Foodbank provides 40 million meals a year to over 2,800 charities and 1,000 schools around Australia, accounting for 80 per cent of the food distributed to charities and food rescue organisations.
