Transform Your Skills to Lead Complex Change
7 July 2015 at 11:22 am
Applications are now open for the annual Sydney Leadership program, an intensive learning experience for inspirational and driven Australians responsible for delivering social impact.
What makes Sydney Leadership different?
“Since 1999 Sydney Leadership has developed a reputation for being a transformative learning experience that develops the awareness, skills, courage and resilience to lead complex change. Our graduates have gone on to achieve amazing results in their role, organisation and communities.” Senior Consultant, Social Leadership Australia, Julie Ahern said.
Reflecting changes in the environment, skills required for effective leadership are changing with more complex thinkers needed.
Sydney Leadership graduates report significant positive changes in the way they exercise and cultivate leadership in the workplace and beyond.
These shifts are evident from very early on in the program and include:
- Increased self awareness and adaptability.
- Stronger relationship management: conflict management, partnering and collaboration.
- Working across boundaries: diverse stakeholder management across sectors.
- Using network thinking: creation of valuable and meaningful contacts.
- Developing breakthrough thinking: resolve stubborn, complex organisational dilemmas.
- Driving organizational transformation at many levels: get others to take up leadership roles.
Unique in Australia, Sydney Leadership’s world-class teaching combines the Harvard based Adaptive Leadership model with robust community engagement.
“Confronting, inspiring and transforming are just some of the words that the people we work with use to describe our approach to leadership development. By facing preconceptions and exploring the complex nature of contemporary social issues, we bring people face to face with the challenges of real leadership. Participants develop a sophisticated skill set and a clear purpose for their work. Their experiences inspire and equip them in their journey to build a better Australia,” Ahern said.
Sydney Leadership provides valuable real live case study learning
During the program participants explore the practice of adaptive leadership within non traditional learning environments. Using a social issue as a real live case study exposes you to the many complexities and layers of human systems and gives you the opportunity to explore the connections between individual lives, their relationships to power and rank, and the leadership work being done.
The range of interactions on these community engagement days generate the insights, the skills, the language, and the courage needed to really exercise leadership in our most challenging, adaptive challenges at work and in the wider world.

Nurturing top talent in the not for profit sector delivers social impact
We are seeking partners to support the Sydney Leadership program applicants who have the courage and determination to make a difference but not the financial means. Investing in a Sydney Leadership Scholarship is a tangible way to drive change, create social impact, deliver on your corporate social responsibility objectives and demonstrate your own leadership to your stakeholders and staff.
