Almost 15,000 charities are due to submit their 2014 Annual Information Statement by 30 June according to the The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

ACNC Commissioner, Susan Pascoe, encouraged charities that use a calendar year reporting period (1 January to 31 December) to beat the last-minute rush and join the over 30,000 charities that had already submitted.

“With a rush of submissions expected just before 30 June, it’s best to submit now to avoid any strains this may place on our systems and our Advice Services team,” Pascoe said.

“Much of the information is pre-populated, saving charities significant time and effort. We also have helpful guidance and support available at acnc.gov.au/2014AIS.”

Pascoe said that this year charities were also required to provide some financial information.

“As part of the 2014 Annual Information Statement, small registered charities will need to provide nine basic financial elements and medium and large charities are required to submit a separate financial report as well as providing financial elements,” she said.

"If a charity has already provided a financial report to a State or Territory regulator, the ACNC may be able to accept these reports as meeting ACNC requirements.

“The financial report will need to be lodged with the Annual Information Statement.

“Over 30 000 charities have already successfully submitted their 2014 Annual Information Statement.

“The information charities provide is published on the ACNC Charity Register – Australia's first free, searchable, database of charities.

"By submitting their 2014 Annual Information Statement, charities are ensuring that the hundreds of thousands of people that view the Charity Register each year are accessing the most accurate and up-to-date information."

Pascoe reminded registered charities that submitting an Annual Information Statement each year was a legislative requirement.

“Registered charities that fail to submit their Annual Information Statement will receive a warning, and if they fail to submit their Statements for two consecutive years, they will have their charity status revoked," she said.

Charities can find further information about the 2014 Annual Information Statement at acnc.gov.au/2014AIS or acnc.gov.au/transitionalreporting.
