A Not for Profit telecommunications organisation has been recognised by Money Magazine as being one of the best value companies in Australia.
Social Enterprise Jeenee Mobile was awarded Money Magazine’s Best Value Mobile Plan – High Usage 2015 and has set a target to donate 10,000 connections to people who live with disability.
Operating on the Optus 4G network, Jeenee Mobile says it uses revenues from its low cost/high inclusions consumer plan sales to achieve its purpose of making mobile accessible and affordable for those in the community who require higher levels of support.
Jeenee Mobile’s General Manager, Jeremy Way said every donation is valued at $840 and includes a 24 month plan, a smartphone with one button access to 24/7 support from trained consultants.
It takes 10 of Jeenee’s plans to generate one donated connection or 100,000 to reach their target of 10,000 donations.
Way said for Jeenee Mobile’s customers who require access to 24/7 support, consultants can do everything from GPS locate them when they are lost or confused, organise urgent assistance including emergency services, through to having a chat with customers who are lonely, worried or just want to hear a friendly voice.
He said that after launching in May 2013 the organisation had proved that a telco can play a major role in supporting people with higher needs to live more independent lives.
“By no fault of their own, thousands of Australians are excluded from mobile connectivity due to their higher support needs which can also exclude them from their communities,” Way said.
“Our growth and donation targets are ambitious; however we only need a fraction of Australia’s 30,000,000 connections to come across to Jeenee to make a huge impact.
“Everyone knows someone with higher care needs, many who may benefit from greater connectedness, so we believe Australian’s and the NFP sector will get behind this.”
Way said the telecommunications sector needed to work harder to be more inclusive of the wider community.
“Sadly, there is a long way to go for the telco sector in Australia to be truly inclusive for everyone, regardless of their higher support needs,” he said.
“With an extensive history working in the sector, creating a values based telco that provides the appropriate support for every Australian was obvious and quite simply something we had to do.”
Jeenee Mobile is a social enterprise brand of Community Connections Australia, a registered charity delivering disability support services throughout the Sydney metro area.
