Scholarships Open for Women on NFP Boards

A Victorian program that will offer 34 scholarships to women on Not for Profit boards to complete a Company Directors governance course is now open for applicants.

This will be the third round of the Victorian Women’s Governance Scholarship program, which was funded by a grant of more than $187,000 from the Victorian Government and a contribution from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

The program will provide female directors in the Not for Profit sector with a scholarship to undertake the Company Directors Course, as well as a year’s free membership of Company Directors.

“These scholarships are part of our commitment to supporting directors in the NFP community, who constitute a large part of our membership,” President of the Victorian Division Council of Company Directors, Bill Scales, said.

“The formal training provided to recipients will help maintain the governance standards within the sector, and mean the funding available to it can be directed back to the individuals and communities it aims to assist.”

Scales said more than 70 women had previously won scholarships in the program.

“The Not for Profit sector faces particular challenges and the winners will have the opportunity to network with peers in similar positions,” Scales said.

The scholarship program is just one of several board diversity initiatives Company Directors has undertaken over the past four years.

It has also established a Board Diversity Scholarship Program that is jointly funded with the Federal Government and launched a Public Sector Mentoring Program for aspiring women in the public sector in the ACT.

Applications for the Victorian Women’s Governance Scholarship program close on Monday, August  18 . For further information, click here.
