The Federal Government has developed a Grants Services Map to illustrate the types of services available for funding in the current application process through the Department of Social Services.

In May, Federal Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews announced the Government’s new grant arrangements for the Not for Profit sector which he said would reduce red tape and give service providers greater flexibility.

“We are collapsing the current unwieldy 18 discretionary grant programs into just seven larger funding buckets,” he said.

“These new grants will entail longer-term agreements that will provide greater certainty as you plan the services our communities need.

“We will also simplify the administrative process by negotiating single consolidated agreements between the Department of Social Services and service providers.”

Andrews said as part of the new arrangements, the Government would roll out a streamlined system that added three newly broad-banded programs – Families and Communities, Housing and Homelessness, Disability, Mental Health and Carers – to complement those already existing in Ageing and Aged Care.

“The revised structure of this new program means funded organisations will have greater flexibility, a lighter administrative burden and greater control over how they fashion services to meet the particular needs of their communities.”

DSS has a number of grants now open for application, covering a range of selection types. Applications will close at 2pm AEST Wednesday 23 July 2014 and key dates are now confirmed.

The Department said it would commence reviewing applications on 24 July 2014.

The Department also said it had a new way of applying for grants.  Firstly, applicants must register, and receive a registration number.  This registration number will be a unique identifier for each legal entity and must be provided when completing the application form.

General information on the application process will provide information on applying for DSS grant funding.  Specific information on each grant activity will also be available on the relevant funding round page which can be accessed via links from the open for application page.

Organisations intending to apply for DSS grants are encouraged to subscribe to receive alerts when new information is made available. The Department said it accepted no responsibility to inform applicants of any changes if they do not subscribe to receive alerts.
