Emerging environmental leader Jonathan La Nauze has won the inaugural Jill Reichstein Award for Social Change – which will see him travel to the US for a study tour visiting  innovative Not for Profit and advocacy organisations.

Award organisers say La Nauze was chosen for his role in a series of highly successful grassroots campaigns at Friends of the Earth from 2001-2012, and his potential to achieve enduring social change into the future. He is currently Healthy Ecosystems Program Manager at the Australian Conservation Foundation.

The Reichstein Foundation established the Award this year in celebration of Reichstein Foundation Chair Jill Reichstein’s 40-year contribution to the Foundation and to social change philanthropy.

The Foundation says La Nauze was selected from a very strong field of leaders and organisers in projects funded by the Reichstein Foundation in the previous five years.

“Jonathan is passionate, intelligent and committed,” Jill Reichstein, Chair of the Reichstein Foundation said.

“He worked very closely in partnership with communities to build a strong and ultimately successful campaign to secure new red gum National Parks and Protected Areas in Victoria and NSW.

“The Reichstein Foundation is very proud to have supported that work at key points. We believe this opportunity will further grow his skills and experience, with great outcomes in the future.”

La Nauze will join a group of a dozen Australian advocates and social entrepreneurs working in the areas of human rights, industrial relations, social services and public health on the US Study Trip, organised by the Centre for Australian Progress.
