NSW Disability Services Gain $2.8m for NDIS Rollout

NSW disability services providers will be eligible for $2.8 million in State Government funding to help with the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
According to NSW Minister for Disability Services John Ajake, National Disability Services will administer the funds which will assist non-government organisations with costs such as streamlining back office functions.
Scott Holz, NDS NSW State Manager said the entire disability community welcomed the financial support.
“The NSW Government is backing the non-government disability sector to deliver supports under the NDIS. This will mean that people with disability experience more choice and control with the services and supports in their lives,” he said.
“In NSW non-government disability service providers deliver over 60 per cent of support to people with disability. They employ highly skilled and passionate staff who are critical in supporting people with disability to realise their goals.”
“This fund will assist organisations to transition to the market based National Disability Insurance Scheme, expanding their services to meet the increased demand.”
The first round of applications will be restricted to service providers delivering services in the NDIS Hunter trial site. Small to medium-size providers can apply for grants of up to $25,000. Large organisation that can demonstrate substantial, sector-wide benefits can also apply.
Organisations are encouraged to submit joint applications of up to $125,000. The Government says opportunities for providers outside the trial site to apply for grants will be announced throughout 2014.
Applications will close for the first round of funding in late March 2014. The second round will open on March 29 and close on May 16 – this round is also targeted at Hunter providers.
Further rounds across NSW will be opened in June 2014.
