Reminder: Complete Your Charity’s 2013 Annual Information Statement

Charities that report on a 1 July to 30 June financial year are required to submit their 2013 Annual Information Statement to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) by 31 March 2014.

Reminder: Complete Your Charity’s 2013 Annual Information Statement

Charities that report on a 1 July to 30 June financial year are required to submit their 2013 Annual Information Statement to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) by 31 March 2014.

The 2013 Annual Information Statement asks charities about their operations and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

The ACNC Commissioner, Susan Pascoe AM, will soon write to charities that need to submit their 2013 Annual Information Statement to remind them of the due date.

The letter will also provide introductory information about the new Charities Act 2013. The ACNC website has information about how the Charities Act impacts both registered and new charities.

Charities that report on a calendar year (1 January to 31 December) are also now able to complete their 2013 Annual Information Statement; however the due date for these charities is not until 30 June 2014.

To date, over 17,000 charities have completed or commenced their Annual Information Statement. The ACNC will soon be releasing an analysis of submissions to further the public’s understanding of the work Australian charities do for the community.

The information charities provide to the ACNC via the Annual Information Statement is already being published on the ACNC Charity Register. The Register is a free, searchable database of all 59,000 registered charities in Australia. The Register can be searched by name, ABN, location, beneficiaries, sub-type and registration date.

The Register has proven to be a useful tool for members of the public and donors looking for information about charities in Australia. Since the establishment of the ACNC, the Register has been viewed over 250,000 times, with an additional 13,000 views coming from mobile devices.

Charities are encouraged to log on and complete their 2013 Annual Information Statement as soon as possible, to ensure they have an accurate and up to date ACNC Register listing.

Charities can submit their 2013 Annual Information Statement by visiting acnc.gov.au and logging onto the Charity Portal. The username is the charity’s ABN, and the password was mailed to the charity’s address for service in early December 2013.

Charities can find step-by-step guidance on the ACNC website, and those needing a little extra assistance are able to call the ACNC on 13 ACNC (13 22 62) or email advice@acnc.gov.au.
