Some of the finalists drawn from the Not for Profit sector included Asylum Seekers Resource Centre, St John Ambulance, Zoos Victoria, Peter Cullen of charity Reclink Australia, Chris Tanti of Headspace and Paul Wheelton.
Selected from a record number of nominations, the finalists include iconic institutions and events alongside some of Melbourne’s quieter achievers, the organisers said.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the individuals and organisations recognised in this year's program have made an important contribution to Melbourne.
“The Melbourne Awards are reserved for those people and organisations whose work and deeds have helped shape Melbourne into the remarkable city it is today,” the Lord Mayor said.
“Their hard work and commitment to our city not only makes them leaders in their fields, but also extraordinary Melburnians. I know that their achievements will inspire others to great things."

The Melbourne Awards shortlist celebrates both small and large-scale organisations and industry leaders, with subcategories to recognise corporations, community organisations and individuals within each field.
A special gala event will be held at the Melbourne Town Hall on Saturday, November 16 where the winners from each category, along with the Melburnian of the Year, will be announced.
The independent judging panel for the Melbourne Awards 2013 includes more than 40 business and community leaders across a range of industry sectors.
The Contribution to Community category is awarded to projects or activities that enhance the lives of residents and workers through new approaches to community services and volunteer work, improvements to accessibility and developments to parks, gardens and open spaces.
